WEO & DE launches new travel and lifestyle exhibition in Sydney
A new exhibition has been launched that will put the spotlight on Asia, its people, its beauty, its travel destinations, its food and its culture.

Spot on Asia is an exciting new concept in travel and lifestyle events that combines travel, culture and food in a total Asian experience.

A joint initiative of World Events Organisation and Definitive Events, Spot on Asia aims to entice and inspire Australians to learn more about their Asian neighbours.

“Asia is the number one travel destination for Australians and travel to Asia has doubled in the last ten years. Spot on Asia will allow Asian travel destinations, airlines and travel agents to market their products to consumers, plus allow the consumer to experience the tastes of Asia through cookery demonstrations, cultural performances, travel talks and films.”

Pico To Manage Venues
Exhibition services provider, Pico, is diversifying its business and going for fee-based contracts. Instead of just setting up booths and offering other show services, it wants to manage exhibition halls and conferences.

Pico Far East Holdings chairman, Mr Lawrence Chia, said the move would boost income and strengthen the company's economic base.

"There's a need in the market. MICE in Asia continues to develop and improve and this calls for better and more professional exhibition services," he said.

Mr Chia noted that many exhibition facilities were developed and managed by governments that had little knowledge of the industry.

The company also plans to co-invest with governments to build new venues.

Hall management accounts for five per cent of Pico's overall revenue, and Mr Chia intends to grow this segment to 25 per cent.

Pico has already secured two major hall management projects in China, the 45,000m2 Chongqing International Convention and Exhibition Centre which it started overseeing last October, and the 14,000m2 Xian Greenland Pico Convention and Exhibition Centre due to open in 2007, which the company has a stake in.

He declined to comment on other cities on his radar screen. "We're still looking for business opportunities in China and we will focus on what we think are the right locations in the right cities."

Pico has other hall management contracts in Vietnam, Sri Lanka, India and the Middle East.

Negotiations are taking place in the Philippines, Thailand and Malaysia.

Mr Chia said Pico's overall business grew 30 per cent overall to US$220 million in 2005. He predicts a 20 per cent increase this year.

Pico set up its Macau branch three years ago and Mr Chia revealed he was planning an expansion there once major exhibition infrastructure was in place next year.
